Chuck Hood Scholarship Fund
The Hood Hargett Breakfast Club Student-Athlete Scholarship Program was established in 1995 by company owner and fund founder Chuck Hood to recognize outstanding students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District who excel both on the playing field, in the classroom, and in their communities. Since its inception, the fund has awarded more than $360,000 in scholarships to local high school students, helping them further their education.
How the Scholarship Fund works
Six times during the school year (September through May), the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club awards a $5,000 scholarship through the Chuck Hood Scholarship Program. Each month’s scholarship recipient is invited to attend that month’s Breakfast Club event, where they are introduced and recognized from the podium before joining the featured guest speaker at the head table. To be eligible, the student must attend a school within the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. The student’s parents, high school principal, athletic director, and coach are also invited to attend.
Nominations for the Chuck Hood Scholarship can come from any of these sources:
- high school coaches
- principals
- community leaders
- business executives
