Hood Hargett Breakfast Club

We’ve had quite a few visitors from the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club visit Classroom Central over the last 2 months. While everyone has been very interested and helpful, there is one group of visitors, that I wanted to share with you.

A group from Keffer Hyundai came to volunteer with us a few weeks ago. They took a tour before volunteering in our warehouse sorting donations. They have been back every week, taking on whatever volunteer opportunity that we need them for (and that in itself is just AWESOME) but they have also generously offered to help with our Mobile Free Store deliveries.

Our Mobile Free Store program came to be last year. Through it, we distribute an assortment of palletized schools supplies and incentives for outlying schools in all of the districts that we serve.

Unfortunately, we do not own a vehicle to transport the product, so we depend on a variety of businesses, organizations, and individuals (in and around the area) to get donations of supplies to schools we serve that may not be able to shop with us based on their school release time and distance. Last year alone, we were able to distribute over $350,000 in supplies through our Mobile Free Store. We will exceed $400,000 this year!

This Friday will be Keffer Hyundai’s “maiden voyage” for the Mobile Free Store and we couldn’t be more excited! None of this would have happened had we not been connected through the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club! Many Thanks Jenn!

When I owned and operated my own public relations company, several of my clients belonged to Hood Hargett Breakfast Club. I often would visit the breakfast meetings with one of those client members. It was easy to see the benefits of participating in such a dynamic networking event. When I signed on with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina in September 2010 to serve as director of Charlotte Community Relations, one of the first initiatives I undertook was to get BCBSNC a membership in HHBC. It has paid off handsomely. Our sales people really like meeting with the many representatives of mainly small- and medium-sized businesses in Greater Charlotte and learning more about their aspirations as well as their needs. We have been members of the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club for the past five years and have found it to be one of the best venues for networking within the Charlotte region.
